After the World Cup events in Klingenthal (02./03.01.) were cancelled due to warm temperatures and lack of snow also the second German event in Schonach in the Schwarzwald region, which was set to take place on the 9th and 10th of Janurary, had to be cancelled today.
After a good snowy start into the winter in early December, the organisers had to struggle with the warm temperatures that affected all of Europe from mid-December onwards and most of the produced and natural snow melted away again. With currently green fields, the OC hung on to the hope of a temperature shift until the last possible date today but with no luck. Also for the next days, the temperatures will mainly stay above zero degrees which does not allow for any snow production.
Race Director Lasse Ottesen: „The extremely high temperatures in central Europe put our Organising Committees and National Ski Associations in a very tough situation to get the venues ready. This second cancellation is of course very sad and absolutely not what we would have wished for. We are working on all and every option to reschedule at least one of the German weekends and hope that we can come back to you with good news within the next one or two weeks.“
The next scheduled Nordic Combined World Cup events are now the two Individual Gundersen competitions in Chaux-Neuve, France, on the 16th and 17th of January.
