Due to the recent mild temperatures in Central Europe, the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup in Tegernsee (GER) on 20th - 21st February has been postponed. FIS, together with the German Ski Federation, is currently looking for an alternate date later in the season to stage the competitions.
Things looked hopeful for the Tegernsee organizers a few weeks ago as it seemed winter had finally arrived in the central Alps. However the last 10 days have brought unseasonably warm temperatures, making it virtually impossible to create any substantial amount of snow.
"The recent warm temperatures combined with the weather outlook were not favorable. To stage the competitions, we need a strong snow base with an additional 25,000m³ of snow to create the various course elements. Looking at the current conditions, is simply not possible to have that much snow prepared and unfortunately we are forced to postpone the race," said FIS Ski Cross Race Director Martin Fialia.
The good news for Ski Cross fans is that the races scheduled for Idre (SWE) next weekend are right on track as the World Cup tour is scheduled to return to action on 13th-14th February with a four-race weekend, two for the ladies' and two for the men.
