Successful FIS World Cup slopestyle events in PyeongChang

The first ever FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard slopestyle competitions in Korea that served as the official Olympic test events took place last weekend at Bokwang Pheonix Park (KOR), the venue for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.

In the snowboard events on 21st February, U.S. riders Jamie Anderson and Brock Crouch claimed victory while Tiril Sjaastad Christiansen (NOR) and Alex Bellemare (CAN) dominated the ski slopestyle events the day before.

Bokwang Phoenix Park featured a three-jump and three-rail slopestyle course, built specifically in view of PyeongChang 2018. The athletes spent valuable time familiarising themselves with the slopestyle course as they also worked their way towards the slopestyle Crystal Globes in the highlight competitions of the season.

The course received much praise for its creativity by the athletes. It was designed and created by German course builder Schneestern, known for its terrain parks at Montafon, the Stubai Glacier (both AUT) and various other locations across Europe.

Action in PyeongChang continues this weekend with the first Olympic test events for ski and snowboard cross, giving the athletes a little taste of what to expect in 2018.
