Candidate Cortina 2021 Foundation "Road to Cancun"

On 5th April, the Italian Winter Sports Federation hosted the first meeting between the President of the Candidate Cortina 2021 Foundation, Riccardo Donadon, its CEO Paolo Nicoletti, FISI President Flavio Roda with FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis and the men’s Alpine Chief Race Director Markus Waldner.

The meeting preliminarily addressed the candidature of Cortina d'Ampezzo for the 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships that will be presented at the FIS Congress in Cancun (MEX), in June.

“The vast vision characterising the Foundation’s management has a strong emphasis on the opportunities presented by the Championships and its legacy,” said Lewis. “The candidature features a big focus on Cortina, its population, and the young people living in Cortina. The main priority moving ahead in the short-term is to establish the finish area of Rumerlo to accommodate all the operational requirements and it’s important to work hard on that in next months until the FIS Congress 2016”.

“Our short-range target is to answer to FIS, designing a sport venue of excellence,” said Donadon. “Cortina wants the 2021 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships to be the centerpiece of the incredible potential of the community. Our ambition is to leave a heritage as important as the one left by the 1956 Olympic Winter Games, and to help develop a new generation of entrepreneurs, managers and mountain professionals.”

“It was a key moment both to establish a direct relationship between FIS and the Foundation, and to start scheduling of all the activities we need to do in order to build a great World Championships," concluded FISI President Flavio Roda.
