At the spring meetings of the FIS Sub-Committees in Zurich (SUI) the provisional competition calendars for the 2016 summer season and the winter 2016/17 were publshed. The proposals have to be confirmed by the FIS Council at the FIS Congress early June. Until then they are still subject to change.
The 2016/17 World Cup will not start in Titisee-Neustadt (GER), as originally planned, but again in Klingenthal (GER). Titisee-Neustadt has decided to not host the competitions due to the necessary reconstruction of the facility. "In the course of the planning of these measures it became obvious that the necessary changes require a lot of time and voluntary work and it can not be completed until the scheduled date in November 2016. We will take the time to thoroughly calculate, plan and realize the project in order to host a ski jumping World Cup in the Black Forest again in the 2017/18 season in a modernized stadium. We are already looking forward to that", the organizer explains in a media release.
New in the men's World Cup calendar for the upcoming season is the Norwegian Tournament with a total of six competitions (1 team, 5 individual) in Oslo, Lillehammer, Trondheim and Vikersund in March. Clas-Brede Braathen, athletic director of the Norwegian Ski Association, expects new synergies and a boost for ski jumping in general and in Norway in particular. "We want to do something new in Norway. We appreciate the chance to do something for our sport and are convinced that this will give us new opportunities", said Braathen.
No rule changes
No proposals regarding any rule changes for the upcoming season were made by the national ski associations, this means that there won't be any changes of the rules.
All proposals will be submitted to the National Ski Associations for their review and feedback, before the Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Committees discuss them in detail during the FIS Technical Committee Meetings at the FIS Congress in Cancun (MEX), in order to submit them to the FIS Council.
Among the Committees and Sub-Committees meeting were the Sub-Committees for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Youth & Children’s Questions, Jumping Hills, Rules & Control, Ski Jumping Calendar Planning, Equipment & Control, as well as the Ski Jumping Coordination Group.
