During the past season 2015/16, the subject of doping has hit the headlines with very serious findings revealed in the report of the WADA Independent Commission that was published last November. Such incidents highlight that the fight against doping is a continual process and there can be no let-up.
The focus of the FIS out-of-competition activities is based on an intelligent testing programme, which is the strategy emphasised by WADA. One of the key activities includes collecting athlete biological passport (ABP) tests.
In the season 2015/16 (including training periods) between 1st May 2015 and 10th April 2016, FIS conducted a total of 477 urine (225 incl Erytrhopoiesis-Stimulating Agents), 214 blood and 643 blood passport collections out-of-competition.
The programme saw an additional 349 in-competition urine sample collections by FIS, and many more under the authority of the National Anti-Doping Agencies.
