1000 days until Åre 2019
10th May 2016 marked 1000 days until the official opening ceremony of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2019 in Åre (SWE) scheduled for 4th February 2019.
The Championships will be held in Åre for the third time after 1954 and 2007. The 2007 edition in particular left many great memories recorded in the history of Alpine Skiing and as a result, the expectations for the 2019 Championships are high.
“It is a massive event, but we are absolutely on schedule and in fact considerably further along than where we were at this point before the 2007 Championships. We have already successfully carried out our first test event, the Audi FIS Ski World Cup City Event in Stockholm. It served as a pleasing confirmation that we have a dynamic, competent and innovative team in place. The construction of the new media centre in Åre is underway, we have received registrations from a great number of volunteers and today we launch our new homepage to mark the milestone of 1000 days until the official opening ceremony”, said Niklas Carlsson, CEO of Åre 2019 AB.
The Åre 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships are estimated to have a budget of approximately 400 million Swedish crowns of which approximately 66 million will be invested in improved snow-making, enhanced flood lighting and the new media centre. These investments will be made in cooperation with the Swedish Ski Association, resort owner SkiStar and the Jämtland Härjedalen region.
Åre is well-known as a host of high quality ski racing events with excellent conditions for the athletes, teams and media. However, the overall objective of the Championships is even greater:
“Our vision is to inspire the world to ski”, emphasised Niklas Carlsson.
The upcoming winter will help Åre 2019 further fine-tune its organisation. The second edition of the World Cup City Event in Stockholm in January will be followed by the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Åre in March 2017.
