Every two years the FIS SnowKidz Award is a focal point of the Bring Children to the Snow campaign. The Award aims to recognise and promote the best examples of the programme.
For the 2016 Award, 15 countries entered their programmes for consideration. The first round of judging included a full analysis by judges Satu Kalajainen (British Airways and Chair of FIS’ Sub-Committee for Cross-Country Youth and Children’s Questions), Antoine Goetschy (International Olympic Committee) and Riet Campell (International Ski Instructors Association).
After careful consideration, the final eight have been confirmed. They are as follows (in alphabetical order):
Belgium - Kids on Snow Tour
Finland – Snow Moves!
France – Le Ski a Fond
Netherlands – Wintersports FUNdays
Portugal – Ski 4 All
Spain – Bring Children to the Snow Spain
Sweden – Everyone on Snow
United States of America – National Winter Sports Education Foundation
Antoine Goetschy said: “It is great to see the standard increasing and this edition was particularly difficult to judge.”
Each of the final eight countries earns CHF 5,000 for their country’s project. The final eight will now go through a second round of judging during the 50th FIS Congress in Cancun (MEX) where the top three will be recognised.
Stay tuned for the full results to be announced on 10th June 2016.
