FIS Marketing and Sponsoring structure changes

FIS is pleased to announce the appointment of Juerg Capol to a new position as FIS Marketing Director as from 1st July 2016.

Juerg Capol (SUI), 50, comes with significant experience in different roles in international skiing organisation and marketing, including at FIS. For the past four years he has worked as Nordic Director for FIS Marketing AG, following nine years as the FIS Cross-Country Race Director and prior to that as Marketing Director of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2003 in St. Moritz. Formerly a top-level cross-country athlete Juerg Capol was a member of the Swiss Team from 1985 to 1994, competing in the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 where he was 4th in the relay.

During his spell as FIS Cross-Country Race Director, Juerg Capol developed the Tour de Ski together with Committee Chairman Vegard Ulvang, which established itself quickly as the highlight of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup season and has just celebrated its 10th anniversary edition.

With overall responsibility for marketing within FIS, Juerg Capol will lead initiatives to further develop and promote FIS activities, as well as collaborate closely with FIS Marketing AG to build on the existing partnerships and explore new opportunities.

Strengthen support for Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard

Marcel Looze will take on a dedicated role as Marketing Manager for Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard. Having worked as FIS Snowboard Race Director from 2006 to 2010, he has been working with both disciplines to develop the new competition series and is well placed to focus on improving the commercial aspects for Freestyle and Snowboard.

His new role comes at a time when the Committee structure for both disciplines has been reviewed by an expert Working Group, chaired by FIS Council Member Dean Gosper and adapted to the disciplines, particularly the joint activities and synergies.
