FIS Leaders’ and Ladies Seminars mark start of FIS Congress week

During the first two days of the 50th FIS Congress, the FIS Development Programme hosted two traditional seminars.

The 16th Leader’s Seminar with the theme of ‘Training for Youngsters’ provided an in depth look at how various National Ski Associations are educating coaches, as well as how to structure youth and children’s training camps in an efficient way.

More than 30 participants were given a lecture by Peter Lauppi, who is responsible for education and research for Swiss Ski. Following on, workshops were held in each of the FIS disciplines where the seminar participants designed their youth training camp, exchanging know-how and experiences at the same time.

Additionally, an information session followed with details about the FIS Development Training Camps, Olympic Solidarity PyeongChang 2018 Scholarships and financial support for the National Ski Associations.

On Monday, the Ladies Seminar took centre stage with the theme of ‘Women in the Ski Sport Industry’. TA full meeting room of participants engaged in discussions about learning what different ladies have done, and can do, to plan for a successful career in sport.

Speakers included Ceil Folz, President of the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, Elene Gaja, Chair of FIS’ Sub-Committee for Alpine Courses, Carlos Padilla, President of the Mexican Olympic Committee and Klara Kaszo, President of the Hungarian Ski Association, who all shared their experience and provided useful tips and tricks for moving ahead in the ski sports industry.

Meanwhile, Karin Orgeldinger, Nordic Director at the German Ski Association and Niina Haaslahti, Operations Director at Vail-Beaver Creek 2015 and Project Manager for Are 2019 and Cortina d’Ampezzo 2021 enriched the seminar by steering two Working Groups on how to plan a career in sport and what qualities make ladies different in their roles.

“These seminars are a great opportunity to provide persons from different backgrounds and with different experiences very practical input,” said Josef Zenhäusern, FIS Development Programme Consultant. “We had diverse groups in both seminars that were very eager to learn, ask questions and contribute both during the workshops and in the more informal settings.”
