The executive board of the Ski Association of Slovenia gave the green light for a candidacy of Planica to host the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships 2023.
After three unsuccessful bids over the last years, this is already the fourth attempt to get this major event to the Nordic Center Planica, where World and Continental Cup competitions were already held in all three nordic disciplines.
"We have the knowledge and the experience to organize this important international event. The rich sports history and results of the Slovenian teams give us an obligation to continue pursuing our goal”, Enzo Smrekar, president of the national ski association, said in a first statement.
The decision about the host city for the World Championships 2023 will be made at the FIS Congress 2018.
