FIS represented at Host City 2016

Leading figures from the world of sport governance and major event ownership convened in Glasgow on Monday and Tuesday for the Host City 2016 Exhibition and Conference to discuss how to attract and host secure and engaging events.

FIS was represented by its Secretary General Sarah Lewis, who participated in the opening high-level panel discussion on the topic “What does future hold for major events?”

Other speakers included Sir Craig Reedie, WADA President Francesco Ricci Bitti, ASOIF President, Simon Clegg Chief Operating Officer, World Expo Dubai 2020, Dimitri Kerkentzes, Deputy Secretary General, BIE (World Expos) and Paul Bush Director of Events, Visit Scotland.

During the panel discussion Sarah Lewis referred to the future Olympic Winter Games discussions: “The focus is on maximising usage of existing infrastructure and facilities which already exist and are in use at International Federation events. Compact events are convenient but may not always offer the best legacy opportunities. Multi-location Games also enable more nations to consider bidding.”
