11th FIS Tour de Ski starts on New Year’s Eve

The 11th edition of the Viessmann FIS Tour de Ski is made up of seven competitions at four venues in three countries. 400 FIS World Cup points and CHF 90,000 prize money are up for grabs for the winners.

The Tour gets underway on New Year’s Eve in Val Mustair (SUI), home of Dario and Gianluca Cologna, which will be hosting the Tour for the third time. It is the first time, however, that it will stage the opening competitions with the first two stages. Afterwards, Oberstdorf (GER) will take over to host stages three and four on 3rd and 4th January 2017. After a one-day break, the Tour will resume in Italy for stage five in Toblach on 6th January and the final two stages, six and seven in Val di Fiemme with the famous Final Climb at Alpe Cermis on 8th January.

On the men’s side Martin Johnsrud Sundby (NOR), Maurice Manificat (FRA) and Dario Cologna (SUI) are the top favourites for the overall victory. On the ladies’ side, Heidi Weng and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (both NOR) have good chances to claim their first-ever title. Other favourites include Charlotte Kalla (SWE) and Krista Parmakoski (FIN).
