The FIS Council held its Spring Meeting in Portoroz (SLO) on Sunday 28^th May and dealt with a full agenda, including regular items such as reports from Organising Committees of the FIS World Championships and Olympic Winter Games, the appointment of technical officials, proposals from the FIS Technical Committees, FIS World Cup calendars and updates to various rules.

The Italian Minister of Sport Luca Lotti, together with the Italian Ski Federation (FISI) President Flavio Roda and National Olympic Committee (CONI) President Giovanni Malagò, has appointed businessman Alessandro Benetton to lead the Cortina 2021 Foundation.

Under the lights of the coastal town of Portoroz (SLO), the Ski Association of Slovenia welcomed the FIS Family with an evening reception staged under perfect conditions at Grand Hotel Bernardin, where the meetings are being staged.

The statistics from the FIS App have now arrived after its launch in the 2016/17 season and were presented to the PR & Mass Media Committee in Portoroz.

From 24th – 27th May the traditional spring FIS Calendar Conference is taking place in Portoroz, Slovenia where the FIS family will gather in the Grand Hotel Bernardin.

Two months after the successful FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti (FIN) closed, the Lahti 2017 Organising Committee presented the outcome of the event at the official debrief in Seefeld (AUT) on 11^th May.

The application brings the total number of candidates for the 2022/2023 FIS World Championships to five, with two bids for the Alpine Events and two bids for the Nordic Disciplines. The Vikersund candidacy is one of two for Norway as Trondheim has submitted its application for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 2023.

With seven competitions in five countries on three continents, the FIS Freestyle Skiing aerials World Cup tour once again brought the highest-flying action in sports to some of the most unique venues on the FIS calendar in 2016/17. 

The basis for a successful winter season already beings in the spring as Portoroz (SLO) is preparing to host the entire FIS Family for the traditional FIS Calendar Conference from 24^th-28^thMay 2017.
