Winning streak of Severin Freund continues
Severin Freund took his fourth win in a row in Oslo and made a huge step towards winning the overall World Cup title. The World Champion won on the Holmenkollen with jumps on 132 m and 128 m and 258.9 points. Noriaki Kasai was second, Peter Prevc and Kamil Stoch shared the third place.
World Cup leader Severin Freund said: “I'm definitely not unbeatable. Stefan Kraft proved that impressively in Lahti. Here I was jumping well, but everything else worked out perfectly as well. You have to fight hard for every win.”
Kasai jumped on 128.5 m in both rounds and with 254.9 points he finished on the podium for the sixth time this season. The Japanese said: “I was very happy, because I haven't been on the podium for a while. Actually I wanted to win, but in my good shape right now this might be possible in Planica. I'm looking forward to the next competition.”
Prevc and Stoch catching up in the final
Kamil Stoch and Peter Prevc caught up tremendously in the final round and finished third. Stoch was 11th after the first round with 124 m, Prevc was only 17th after his jump on 121.5 m. The Slovene, currently second in the overall World Cup, then showed the longest jump of the day with 134.5 m in the final, Stoch landed at 134 m. At the end both scored 251.5 points. Kamil Stoch said: “The competition ended really well for me. During the competition it felt as if something was missing. I was working very hard over the past two months to achieve such good results. It was always very close and I didn't know what was missing. The second jump was almost perfect today. I'm really looking forward to Planica. There are always many Polish fans there and I love ski flying.”
0.7 points behind, 4- Hills-Tournament winner Stefan Kraft was fifth with 130 m and 126.5 m. The two Norwegians Anders Bardal (250.4 points) and Anders Jacobsen (239.2 points) followed in sixth and seventh.
Good performance of Polish team
Besides Kamil Stoch, Piotr Zyla, eighth with 238.3 points, and Klemens Muranka, who achieved his best result this season in tenth with 234.9 points, completed the great result for the Polish team. The ninth place went to Roman Koudelka with 237.6 points. Shohei Tochimoto was eleventh, a season-best for him. World Champion Rune Velta and his teammate Phillip Sjoeen followed in 12th and 13th. Vincent Descombes Sevoie came in on a very good 15th place, behind Manuel Fettner. Richard Freitag, Gregor Schlierenzauer and Andreas Wellinger came in on the places 16 to 18 and were not satisfied with their results.
Deschwanden best Swiss
Gregor Deschwanden was the best Swiss in 21st, Simon Ammann failed to make the cut for the final round. Ammann will not be competing in this season's final in Planica. Lars Antonissen did not qualify for the final round, but he was still happy as he was the first Dutch athlete to qualify for a World Cup competition in 12 years and finished 51st.
In the overall World Cup, Severin Freund (1643 points) now has a lead of 94 points over Peter Prevc before the final two individual competitions in Planica. With his result in Oslo, the Slovene still has a chance to take that overall title. Stefan Kraft is now 175 points Freund and only has a theoretical chance to win the crystal globe. But the Austrian already secured his podium result in the overall World Cup.
The German team extended its lead over the Norwegians in the Nation's Cup in the two competitions in Oslo. With 5239 points, Germany leads 276 points ahead of Norway. Austria is on the third place.
The season will conclude next weekend in Planica with two individual and one team competition.
