Shiffrin and Kristoffersen win Longines Rising Star award
Longines awarded the Longines Rising Ski Stars prize directly following the Nations Team Event in Meribel (FRA). For the ladies' American Mikeala Shiffrin made it three-in-a-row, while Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen picked up the prize for the first time ever.
Both received a trophy, a cheque for 20'000 CHF and a Longines Conquest Classic watch, representing the precision, the technique and the elegance of Alpine Skiing.
Created in 2012, the prize is awarded to the best young athlete, female (under 21) and male (under 23), taking part in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, reflecting Longines’ continued support for young athletes.
Shiffrin, who is also an official ambassador of Longines is not stranger to the award. "I'm honored not only to receive this award for a third time, but also to be able to be a representative of this brand and its values," said Shiffrin. "It's always a really nice way to start the end of the season. To realize I have had a strong season while still being a junior athlete makes me really proud, especially now that I am partnered with Longines. I hope that I always take the approach of being a rising star instead of feeling as if I am already a star. It's always about improving and getting better every day so that's what this award means to me. It's a good reminder to me that I'm still young, there is hopefully a lot more to come and I just need to keep working hard."
The Longines Rising Ski Star prize forms part of several activities undertaken by Longines to support youth through sport and to encourage the discovery of young talent. Longines also sponsors the Longines Future Ski Champions race, which is traditionally held in Val d'Isere each season for the top talent, alternating with male and female racers each year. With its slogan “Elegance is an attitude”, Longines particularly supports young people in several sports, including tennis and equestrian alongside Alpine Skiing.
