Junior Worlds: Laffont and Pavlenko win moguls gold
Perrine Laffont (FRA) and Aleksey Pavlenko (RUS) took gold in an exciting moguls competition on 25th March 2015.In the ladies’ category, Avital Shimko and Jaelin Kauf (both USA) scored silver and bronze.
At only 16 years of age, Laffont, who is already a regular at World Cup level now adds on to her dual and single moguls bronze medals from the 2013 and 2014 editions of the Championships. Ranked 6th in dual and 13th in single moguls, she also made a strong appearance at the recent FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships in Kreischberg (AUT).
For the U.S. girls, it was their maiden appearance at Junior World Championship level. Separated by nearly 8 points from gold, it was a tight battle between the two for silver and bronze with Shimko seeing the better end for herself as she ended her run a mere 1.03 points ahead of Kauf.
Russian podium sweep
On the men’s side, it was a podium sweep for Russia as Egor Anufriev and Andrey Makhnev landed in second and third place.
The 20-year-old winner Pavlenko, who is also competing at FIS World Cup level and participated in Kreischberg, took his first big international victory. His sole victory to date was a first place at Europa Cup level in 2012. At the Junior Worlds in 2013, he earned bronze in dual moguls. Meanwhile, Anufriev took bronze in moguls last year while Markhnev scored his first top 3 result on an international stage today in Valmalenco.
Despite difficult slope conditions, the competitions could be held as scheduled due to the hard and committed work of the Organisers.
