Belle Berghuis announces career's end
It wasn't an easy step for the the sibling of Britt, who had retired five years ago already, but a necessary one.

“It was a hard decision,” said Berghuis who was what you can call a Dutch one-woman-show on the tour over over the past years.

“I still feeling very strong and I love snowboard cross but couldn't see my path on the tour again being a competitor for Gold in the next seasons or the next Olympics with the lack of financial support, coach or teammates.”

As a result, the Antwerpen resident who was born in Zurich, Switzerland looks back on 46 World Cup starts of which four of them led to a top-10 finish.

“I had some great moments on tour, some good racing and passing. In addition, I remember the first time I won some prize money in Telluride back in 2010 and finishing fourth in the pre-Olympic test event for Sochi with which I qualified for the Olympic Winter Games.”

In the end, the 30-years-old goofy rider finished in 20th position at her sole Olympics.

Besides that, Berghuis also represented her home country at four World Championships with the eleventh rank in La Molina, Spain being her best result at major events.

“I want to thank all the sbx riders for some great times and competitive racing. And I also want to thank everybody who supported me during my career,” she says.

“What comes next is the big question but it's definitely going to be sports related.

I have a degree in sports marketing, and I also have the ambition for a career in the commercial side of the sport. But I also am a personal trainer right now,” Berghuis adds.

Chances are good that the World Cup tour might have lost a solid racer but not Bell Berghuis at all.
