After a two-week break, the Continental Cup of the summer 2015 continues this weekend in the Finnish ski jumping center of Kuopio.
In the first competition on the famous large hill on the Puijo on Saturday evening, Austrian Florian Altenburger was the best with 122 m and 121 m and 234.6 points. With this performance, the 21-year-old, already second and first in the FIS Cup competitions in Kuopio earlier this week, took his first ever win in the COC.
The second place went to Anze Lanisek of Slovenia with jumps on 121.5 m and 119.5 m and a total of 228.9 points.
18-year-old German Tim Fuchs, with 118.5 m sixth after the first round, jumped on 117.5 m in the final and with 218.3 points he moved up to third and achieved the first podium result of his career in the Continental Cup.
The best of the hosting Finn team in this competition closely missed the podium. Ville Larinto came in fourth, only 1.8 points behind Tim Fuchs, closely followed by the best Pole, Przemyslaw Kantyka, in fifth.
With Andraz Pograjc (6th), Cene Prevc (8th) and Miran Zupancic (9th), three more athletes, besides second-placed Anze Lanisek, of the strong Slovenian team finished in the Top 10. Germany's Danny Queck came in seventh.
Martti Nomme was second after his strong first jump, but he could not follow up on this performance in the final round. With a tenth place overall the young Estonian still achieved a career-best result today.
With his fifth place, Przemyslaw Kantyka now took the lead in the overall ranking of the COC with 220 points, ahead of his teammate Dawid Kubacki and Anze Lanisek (both 200 points).
