Nordic Combined Summer Grand Prix kicks off this weekend

Like their Ski Jumping counterparts, the Nordic Combined athletes are kept busy during the summer with a Summer Grand Prix series, which has its first competition on Saturday, 29th August 2015 in Oberwiesental (GER).

The Summer Grand Prix will make five stops this season, including competitions in Tschagguns (AUT), Oberstdorf (GER), Winterberg (GER) and Sochi (RUS).

Among the top stars competing are double World Champion Johannes Rydzek (GER), who was King of the Summer in 2014. 2013 joint winners Akito Watabe (JPN) and Bernhard Gruber (AUT) will not make it easy for Rydzek, as well as his teammates Björn Kircheisen and Eric Frenzel who will also look to earn bragging rights this summer.

With no international competitions since mid-March, this first meeting of the world’s elite Nordic Combined athletes promises to be filled with excitement.

Youngsters share the stage at Youth Grand Prix

Meanwhile in Oberstdorf, boys and girls of the youth category will be fighting for victory along the senior athletes. On two competition days, the boys and girls will be competing in Sprint and Individual Gundersen events in two age categories.

In anticipation of this weekend’s kick-off, many teams have been busy preparing, holding training camps all around Europe.
