Mario Seidl celebrates PCR victory on home ground
Austrian Mario Seidl delighted his fellow Austrians on location in Tschagguns, Montafon with the victory in the Provisional Competition Round. 105 metres which meant a (short-lived) hill record gave Seidl 125.2 points and a head start of 2 seconds on Japan’s Akito Watabe who showed a sample of his jumping strength once more.

World and Olympic Champion as well as Oberwiesenthal-winner Eric Frenzel came away with the third position, 21 seconds behind Seidl but stole the summer hill record from the Austrian: with 105,5 metres, the Germans will be listed among those with the best jumps on the new HS 108 facility in Tschagguns.

Behind the Top Three, it was a tight result that had Wolfgang Bösl, Francois Braud and Poland’s Szczepan Kupzcak on ranks four, five and six and would start 24, 27 and 30 seconds after the winner should the PCR have to be used tomorrow. In total, 18 athletes ranked within one minute of time disadvantage. Leevi Mutru, Alexander Brandner and Ruslan Balanda were the unlucky few who did not make the qualification for tomorrow’s Individual Gundersen event in addition to Alessandro Pittin and Paul Gerstgraser who were disqualified due to irregular equipment.
