FIS Rollerski World Championships: Russia dominates day 4 in Val di Fiemme

Russia has met the highest expectations on the very last day of the 2015 FIS Rollerski World Championships in Italy's Val di Fiemme, today. The final competition of the tournament was the Long Distance Mass Start FT race and former Winter Olympic champion Eugeniy Dementiev seized gold after a tough 25km long race in which he managed to get rid of Robin Norum (SWE) and Federico Pellegrino (ITA) only at the end of the final uphill. Dementiev crossed the line almost 8 seconds ahead of the Swede while Pellegrino finished 13 seconds behind.

A huge crowd gathered in Val di Fiemme to cheer and enjoy the final day of the Rollerski World Champs, and the Russian flag waved high in the Italian blue sky more than once as Andrey Nischakov and Maria Kondratenko both became new 2015 Rollerski Junior World Champions in Long Distance discipline.
In the Senior Ladies' Mass Start competition, Marika Sundin of Sweden took the title by defeating homegirls Ilaria Debertolis and Virginia De Martin Topranin.

Concerning the overall medal table of the 2015 FIS Rollerski World Championships, Russia topped the gold and total ranking with 6 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals. Italy followed with 4 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals, and Sweden reached third spot with 4 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.
An Open promo race took place today on the streets of Val di Fiemme straight after the World races and – almost needless to say – two Russians climbed the highest step of the podium, Nikita Kriukov and Svetlana Hvostunkova.

The 2015 FIS Rollerski World Championships will be broadcast by national RAI Sport 1 TV channel on Wednesday 30 September afternoon, and Eurosport, NRK (Norway) and SVT (Sweden) will be airing the event internationally.

The races in Val di Fiemme awarded the last 2015 Rollerski World Cup points and Sweden's Linn Sömskar and Robin Norum grabbed the title in Senior category while Markus Fredriksson (SWE) and Olga Letucheva (RUS) seized the overall victory among Juniors.

Now that the curtains on a super successful running of the Rollerski World Champs have come down, Italy's Val di Fiemme and the Nordic Ski Fiemme OC look ahead at the 2016 FIS Tour de Ski with the final legs scheduled on 9 and 10 January in Lago di Tesero and on the Alpe Cermis with the spectacular Final Climb.
