Where to ski in October?
In October several resorts in the Northern hemisphere will open on either natural or snow artificial snow. FIS Cross-Country News brings you an overview where you can ski on natural snow.
Canada
Cross-Country Canada traditionally starts the winter in Canmore with “Frozen Thunder” events. Snow stored over the summer, the snow will be distributed to a 2 km lap. Due to unseasonably mild temperatures last winter, the Canmore Nordic Centre anticipates Frozen Thunder to be shorter than last year.

Finland
There are several possibilities to ski in Finland on natural snow. On 10th October, Vuokatti opens a 1 km long course, which together with the loop in the ski tunnel will be extended to 2.4 km.

At the end of October, a 6 km long track will be ready in Muonio. Many World Cup teams are going to train there before the FIS Cross-Country World Cup opener in Kuusamo.

As soon as temperatures drop below zero and snow production can start Levi will be ready to prepare a 5.0 km course as well as Saariselkä.

Norway
The traditional place where to ski in October in Norway is Beitostølen. Organizers stored more snow than ever and are planning to open on October 30th. The loop will be 5.0 km, The Norwegian national opening takes place here on Novemeber 13th-15th.

Other venues in Norway is Sjusjøen/Natrudstilen, which already opened a 1.5 km course on 16th October, www.sjusjoen-skisenter.no and Trysil, which, guarantees opening of a 6.0 km loop at latest October 29th www.trysil.no/no/.
Sweden
There are several venues where teams can do their pre-season training on skis. Former World Cup venue Gällivare is also very well known for good snow conditions in the early season. This season several World Cup teams including Canada and Czech Republic will train there before the first World Cup in Ruka. The opening is scheduled on 31st October.

Idre
Another venue in Sweden, which opened in early October is Idre. The 2.6 km long track opened on 17th October.
Bruksvallarna is the traditional place where the Swedish national team spends the last week before the World Cup season. Charlotte Kalla and the rest of the national team will stay there from 20th – 22nd November.

Switzerland
On 31st October a track made of the farmed snow will be open in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup venue Davos.
Lenzerheide
FIS Tour de Ski host Lenzerheide started a pilot project this autumn. In cooperation with TechnoAlpin the LOC started a snow production in plus temperatures on October 14th. The plan is to open the course at the end of October.
