Familiar spot for Sundby as Tour leader

As the winner of the last 5 FIS World Cup Tour competitions, Norway's Martin Johnsrud Sundby is back in familiar territory as the leader of the Ruka Triple mini-tour. Sundby won the men's 10 km free technique interval start competition by +11.2 second ahead of Alex Harvey of Canada and Dario Cologna of Switzerland in third +11.6 seconds back.

With his win today Sundby moves into the lead by +13.8 second ahead of his teammate Finn Hagen Krogh. As well, Sundby takes over the World Cup Overall leaders bib as he has worn at the end of the past two seasons.

The Tour will conclude Sunday with the 15 km classic pursuit competition and with 7 men within 30 seconds of the Tour lead it should be a very exciting conclusion.

ATHLETES QUOTES

Martin Johnsrud Sundby, NOR
I have a good start position for tomorrow. It will be a new experience to start first in the last stage. I have to mentally prepare for that. But I think I am in a good shape.

Alex Harvey, CAN
It is my first podium ever before the Christmas. Ruka was not the best for me because of the steep uphills. It is a good sign of recovery to be on the podium. My skis were working very well. I had to push a lot with my legs because the snow was soft. It’s going to be a tough fight tomorrow. I will try to join Dario and work hard.

Dario Cologna, SUI
Everything worked well today and I showed a good performance. Before the first World Cups you never know where you are after the off-season. I wanted to keep the steady pace but it was not always easy. Towards the end of the race I lost some time. Alex was very fast today.
