Takanashi strikes back

Sara Takanashi won the second individual FIS Ski Jumping World Cup Ladies in Nizhny Tagil and celebrated her 31st World Cup win. She stayed ahead of her team mate Yuki Ito and the Austrian Chiara Hölzl with the longest jumps of the day, 98,0 and 99,0 metres and 257,1 points.

Sara Takanashi:” The second jump was really long, so it´s a real pity, that I couldn´t stand a Telemark. I had to do some technical corrections, compared to yesterday. That resulted in clearly better jumps today.”

Yuki Ito finished second with jumps of 92,0 and 91,5 metres and 233,1 points. It´s her first podium this year and secured a Japanese double win. Ito: “My result is really good and I am very satisfied with it. But my overall performance could be better. It would be nice, if this could work out. We will have training sessions at home in Japan in the next weeks to prepare for our home World Cup.”

Chiara Hölzl finished third with jumps of 90,0 and 95,0 metres, overall 232,4 points in the end. She followed Ito in the ranking and could celebrate the second podium finish of her career. Overall, this was the third Austrian podium result in Nizhny Tagil this weekend. Hölzl:” I had to wait long for my jump in the final round and it was starting to get really cold. But the jump was, aside from the landing, really good. I am still a little bit disappointed because of yesterday, I couldn´t show my best performance. But today I am very satisfied.”

Maja Vtic finished fourth, while improving ten positions compared to the day before, with jumps of 89,0 to 93,5 metres and 230,7 points. The Canadian Taylor Henrich could celebrate her fifth place and jumps of 90,5 and 91,0 metres with 229,7 points. Norwegian Maren Lundby, second after the first round, finished in sixth place with 228,2 points. Olympic Champion Carina Vogt, still waiting for her first podium this year, was best German with 226,6 points and place seven. She was followed by only one tenth point by her team mate Katharina Althaus. Daniela Iraschko-Stolz did not start well into the competition. The winner of the first World Cup in Nizhny Tagil lost points at the first landing, but could improve in the final from 13th to 9th position with 223,1 points. Jaqueline Seifriedsberger was the third Austrian in the top ten with 221,0 points and completed a strong team performance. She was followed by 0,2 points of Juliane Seyfarth in 11th place, ahead of Finn Julia Kykkänen, who confirmed her improving performance. Eva Pinkelnig, who was on the podium on Saturday, had to accept finishing 14th behind Line Jahr. Julia Clair, who won three qualifications this season, finished 15th. Sofya Tikhova and Irina Avvakumova could not deliver the desired top results at home, with finishing 16th and 17th. Elena Runggaldier was best Italian in 20th place. Tara Geraghty-Moats, in 21st place, was the only US-American who could collect World Cup points. Daniela Haralambie reached the top 30 for the third time in a row and finished 23rd.

Sara Takanashi is leading the overall World Cup with 280 points and could get away for the first time with 101 points ahead of the second, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz. Yuki Ito with 151 points is third in the ranking. It´s already sure now, that Takanashi will start in the yellow bib in her home event in January in Sapporo.
