Double victory for the Prevc family

Peter Prevc took the win in the first individual competition in Engelberg and together with his younger brother Domen he provided a novelty. Both celebrate the first ever double victory of brothers in the ski jumping World Cup.

Peter Prevc showed jumps on 139.5 m and 1345 m and scored 297.1 points. The Slovene said afterwards: "It was a great day for me and for my family. Especially the first jump was really great, I'm very satisfied with it. The second jump was on a bit lower level. I think that it's easier for me now to handle the situation of being among the favorites for the 4-Hills-Tournament. But it's still too early to think about that. Tomorrow we have another competition here and it's still a long time until the end of the 4-Hills."

First podium for Domen Prevc

16-year-old Domen Prevc achieved his first ever podium finished in the World Cup with 133.5 m and 134 m and 283.5 points. Domen Prevc said: "I didn't expect such a good result. I thought that I might have problems jumping in this high altitude, but I had two very good jumps. Peter is an inspiration for me. He pushes me and makes me better and better."

Record for Kasai

At age 43, Noriaki Kasai is the oldest jumper to ever finish on the podium in a World Cup competition. The Japanese scored 273.5 points with his jumps on 131.5 m and 134 m. Kasai was only 12th after the first round. Kasai told later: "I'm very satisfied. It was a perfect competition for me. Tomorrow I want to jump well again I hope that I can win. The 4-Hills-Tournament is something special for me and I would like to be on the podium in all four competitions."

Richard Freitag came in fourth with 132.5 m and 128.5 m and 272.3 points and equalled his best result this season, achieved at the World Cup opener in Klingenthal.

Norwegians strong, also without a podium

For the first time this winter the Norwegians missed the podium. Kenneth Gangnes was fifth with jumps on 127 m and 135 m and 271.6 points. World record holder Anders Fannemel followed only 0.1 points behind in sixth, a season-best for him.

Best Austrian was Stefan Kraft in seventh with 269.8 points, ahead of overall World Cup winner Severin Freund, who came in eighth with 265.7 points. Michael Hayboeck (264.7 points) and Manuel Fettner (264.3 points) finished ninth and tenth and completed the best team result for Austrian this season. Andreas Kofler also achieved a strong result in 13th.

Even if they had no athlete on top today, the Norwegians once again impressed with a strong team effort. With Joachim Hauer, who was 12th behind Roman Koudelka, Johann Andre Forfang and Andreas Stjernen in 14th and 15th, five Norwegians finished in the Top 15. Tom Hilde was 17th, behind Andreas Wank.

World Cup points for Stekala

Double Olympic Champion Kamil Stoch was 20th and is still not in his top shape, his teammate Andrzej Stekala scored his first World Cup points in 27th. Neither Simon Ammann (21st) nor Gregor Deschwanden (30th) could fulfill the Swiss hopes for a top result in front of the home crowds. Ronan Lamy Chappuis could score at least two World Cup points in 29th.

The second competition in Engelberg will take place on Sunday at 2:15 pm CET. The qualification starts at 12:45 pm CET.
