Peter Prevc won the individual competition in Willingen, it was already his fourth win in a row. The 4-Hills-Tournament winner had the longest jumps in both rounds with 148.5 m and 145.5 m and with 264.9 points he came in clearly ahead of Kenneth Gangnes and Severin Freund.
The Slovene said afterwards: "My shape is very good at the moment, I hope it will remain like that because I can change very fast and then it's not working that well anymore. Hopefully I can continue to jump on this level also at the Kulm. The hill there is new and so we will test a lot on Thursday. I'm a bit scared of what the many Slovenian fans in Austria will do to me, if I don't jump that well. But I'm looking forward to seeing many Slovenian flags."
Gangnes also had a good final test for the Ski Flying World Championships in Bad Mitterndorf. With jumps on 139.5 m and 141 m he scored 249.4 points. Gangnes said: "It was a nice competition despite the difficult conditions. I'm very satisfied with my jumps. It got better and better for me in Willingen over the past three days and I hope that it'll continue like that at the Kulm."
Freund clearly behind Gangnes
World Champion Severin Freund came in 15.2 points behind the Norwegian with 145.5 m and 133 m. Freund said: "It was extremely cool again here in Willingen. Unfortunately the jumps in the final round weren't that far. It was a nice weekend, now I'm looking forward to a few days of rest and then to the ski flying. The second jump on 133 m was not that cool, because here on this hill it feels like it's in the middle of the landing area. But it was difficult today due to the changing wind conditions."
Stefan Kraft came in fourth and was by far the best Austrian, but with 147 m and 127 m and 225.2 points he clearly missed the podium.
Andreas Wellinger achieved his best result this season in fifth with 143.5 m and 129.5 m and 222.7 points.
Norwegians outstanding
On the places six to nine Daniel Andre Tande (221.1 points), Anders Fannemel (217.9 points), Andreas Stjernen (206.6 points) and Johann Andre Forfang (205.2 points) completed an outstanding result for the Norwegian team.
The Czech team also showed a strong performance today. Behind Roman Koudelka, who was tenth with 204.2 point, Jan Matura and Jakub Janda came in 11th and 12th. Shortly before the World Championships on the Kulm, Jurij Tepes confirmed his positive trend in 13th, Vincent Descombes Sevoie was 15th, behind Andreas Wank, and showed that he's still in a good shape.
Points for Larinto
Ville Larinto was 1th and the only Finn, who could score World Cup points, Stefan Hula was the best Pole in 18th, followed by the best Russian, Denis Kornilov. It was also a successful afternoon for Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, who was 20th and gained some self-confidence before the ski flying event in Austria. Best Swiss was Gregor Deschwanden in 22nd.
Bad day for Austria
The Austrian team will travel to the championships in front of their home crowd with mixed emotions. Besides Stefan Kraft, Manuel Poppinger was the only one who could qualify for the final. He came in 26th. Also Richard Freitag didn't do well, he came in 29th, partly also because of the difficult wind conditions.
Good lead for Prevc
Peter Prevc further extended his lead in the overall World Cup. With 1024 points he is now 245 points ahead of Severin Freund. Kenneth Gangnes follows in third with 675 points, 104 points behind the German. Michael Hayboeck couldn't score any points in Willingen and with 487 points he is now only six points ahead of Johann Andre Forfang.
In the Nation's Cup the Norwegian team now scored 2595 points and is only three points behind Germany. Slovenia is third with 2132 points.
