Peter Prevc takes Gold at Ski Flying World Championships

With his final jump, Prevc improved the hill record he set on Friday by one meter to now 244 m. In the second round he landed at 213.5 points and lost the leading position to Kenneth Gangnes. Prevc said afterwards:“It was really good to jump 244 m and stand it. This season is going great for me, it has been amazing from the start in Klingenthal until now. First the 4-Hills-Tournament and then this - I'm very happy that I could show such good flights. Right now everything works well, but you have to improve constantly because if you stand still, the others will pass by you. We will see after this season how I will train for the next one."

Gangnes happy

After jumps on 236 m and 216 m on Friday, Gangnes could not fight back on Saturday with 238 m and came in second, 3.3 points behind the Slovene. The Norwegian said: "It was okay to jump again after the crash in the trial round. I was a little bit tense in the neck, but it didn't affect my performance. I'm really satisfied and happy about my silver medal. And I'm also very proud. Now I'm looking forward to tomorrow. It has been a long way to come back after all the injuries, so it's nice to see that I'm able to win medals at World Championships. I don't think I lost the gold medal due to the low judges' marks, I landed without the telemark and got the marks I deserved."

Kraft satisfied with the development

Stefan Kraft jumped on 226.5 m in the final and in the first round and on 220 m in the second round for a total of 629.2 points and took the medal for the hosts. "It was a pleasure to jump here, it was one of the highlights to fly over the hill size. At the beginning of the season I was sometimes better in the trial round, now it's important to show my best performance in the competition and in front of the home crowd. It was a highlight to win the bronze medal here", Kraft told.

Forfang fourth with fall

Johann Andre Forfang lost his chance to win a medal with a fall in the third round after a jump on 240 m. With his jumps on Friday on 230 m and 216.5 m and 602.0 points he was fourth.

Noriaki Kasai, who had an outstanding first jump on 240.5 m, landed at 215 m and 222 m in the second and third round and finished fifth with 600.4 points. Defending champion Severin Freund could not fight for the medals. He showed his longest jump on Saturday with 223.5 m, but with his total of 565.3 points he was almost 75 points behind Peter Prevc.

Anders Fannemel scored 543.9 points and had his longest jump with 234 m, came in seventh, behind Freund. Richard Freitag celebrated a 231 m jump in the third round and finished eighth with 542.8 points. Jurij Tepes was ninth with 535.5 points.

Slovenia ready for team event

Robert Kranjec, tenth with 534.9 points, and Anze Lanisek in 12th proved that Slovenia is among the top favorites for the team competition. Michael Hayboeck came in 11th, close behind Kranjec. The once again strong Vincent Descombes Sevoie, Andreas Wellinger and Dawid Kubacki completed the Top 15.

Daniel Andre Tande was the fourth-best Norwegian in 18th, behind Simon Ammann and Manuel Poppinger, and will have a good chance to get a place on the team for the team event on Sunday. Roman Koudelka was the best Czech in 20th. Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes and Denis Kornilov finished 27th and 29th for Canada and Russia.

The team competition on the Kulm-hill starts on Sunday at 2:15 pm CET.
