Last weekend, it was time for the first international competition action for the future Nordic Combined stars as a FIS Youth Cup took place in Harrachov (CZE). With the warm weather also taking its toll on the competition activities for the young athletes this winter, all teams were excited to arrive in snowy Harrachov.
During two competition days, more than 70 participants from nine nations* battled it out in an Individual Gundersen and sprint event. The athletes were split into two different age groups ranging from 13-15 and 16-18 and competed in four categories: Youth I boys and girls and Youth II boys and girls.
While Austria’s Timna Moser and Lisa Eder continued their dominance from the past season winning both events respectively, victory in the boys’ categories was a battle between local hero Jan Vytrval who prevailed on both days in the Youth II category and his younger teammate Petr Sablatura and Austria’s Manuel Einkemmer who both won one event in the Youth I category.
Besides the competitions, the weekend also offered social activites, uniting the young athletes from the participating nations.
With this great start into the international Youth Nordic Combined competition season, all participants are looking forward to the second FIS Youth Cup in Trondheim (NOR) in conjunction with the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup competitions there in February.
