Norway's Therese Johaug has now won 13 FIS World Cups this season with her victory today in the 5 km classic interval start in Falun, Sweden. Only Bente Skari (14), and Marit Bjoergen (17, 15) have won more in a single season. More statistics are available here. It was another Norwegian sweep of the podium with Heidi Weng in 2nd place +18.6 seconds behind Johaug and in 3rd place was Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg +29.2. Oestberg bumped her teammate Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen from third by just 0.4 seconds. Johaug won in a time of 13:49.1.
The USA had two ladies in the top 7 with Jessie Diggins in 5th and Sadie Bjornsen in 7th. Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk notched another top 10 today with a 6th place finish.
ATHLETE QUOTES
Heidi Weng NOR
It was tough to go only 5km but you can start hard like a sprint but that is also a risk, that makes it a difficult race. So I am happy with today. I like the interval start to be free of skiing around others.
Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg NOR
I had to fight against myself today to keep pushing. In the end I had nothing left. It's another podium for me which is incredible and I am very satisfied with that and also a little tired.
Therese Johaug NOR
I knew before we started today it would be really hard. It's only 5km and you have to work hard the whole way. I am really happy to win, as it's not my favourite distance so that makes it even better.
