Peter Prevc also won the second individual competition in Almaty and already took this season's overall World Cup title. With jumps on 139.5 m and 139 m, the Slovenian Ski Flying World Champion came in ahead of last year's World Cup champion Severin Freund and Daniel Andre Tande. Prevc also equalled the record of Gregor Schlierenzauer with his 13th win this season.
Prevc, who is the second Slovene to win the crystal globe after Primoz Peterka, said: "It was the best moment of my career when I realized that I won the overall title. It took me seven seasons and after it was so close last season I could now prove that I can win. My goal is always to jump perfectly and this only happens once or twice during a season. So there's still a lot of work to do and also the Ski Flying World Cup is not decided yet this season. So there are goals left for me."
Freund sets hill record
Severin Freund could at least get close to his opponent with jumps on 137 m and the hill record of 141.5 m, but as so often this season he came in behind Prevc with 314.3 points. "It would have also been nice to get a bit closer to Peter again, but he's simply too strong at the moment. I'm happy that my jumps are getting better and better and that I could finish second today after two third places recently."
Daniel Andre Tande jumped on 140.5 m and 139.5 m and 310.9 points and achieved his fourth podium result in the World Cup. The Norwegian said: "I'm very satisfied. I'm jumping on a very high level right now and I hope I can continue like that until the end of the season."
Austrians closely miss the podium
The two Austrians Stefan Kraft and Michael Hayboeck, who were on he podium together in Kuopio, had to be satisfied with the places four and five this time. Kraft showed jumps on 139 m and 138.5 m for 306.4 points. Only 0.4 points behind, Hayboeck was fifth with 135.5 m and 137 m.
Richard Freitag, sixth with 294.6 points, and Andreas Wellinger, tenth with 280.3 points, provided a very good team result for Germany.
Strong Japanese
With Noriaki Kasai (294.3 points) and Taku Takeuchi (293.4 points) in seventh and eighth, the Japanese team can be very satisfied as well. The ninth place went to Kenneth Gangnes with 288.6 points. Stephan Leyhe closely missed the second Top 10 result of his career in eleventh.
Roman Koudelka was the best Czech in 12th, Andreas Stjernen once again showed a solid performance and finished 13th. Daiki Ito and Robert Kranjec completed the Top 15. Behind the best Swiss, Simon Ammann, world record holder Anders Fannemel and Jurij Tepes tied for 17th.
The Polish team could at least improve Saturday's result with Dawid Kubacki and Andrzej Stekala in 25th and 28th.
Prevc can win one more title
With now 1898 points Peter Prevc has a lead of 619 points over Severin Freund with six individual competition left this season. Michael Hayboeck is third in the overall ranking with 1143 points, Kenneth Gangnes follows in fourth with 1073 points, ahead of Stefan Kraft (913 points).
After his success at the 4-Hills-Tournament, the Ski Flying World Championships and now also the overall World Cup title, Peter Prevc could add a yet another trophy to his collection at the World Cup final in Planica with the Ski Flying World Cup. The Slovene also leads this ranking.
The World Cup continues already on Thursday in Wisla, Poland.
