Snowboard Junior Worlds wrap up, Russia best nation

From 2nd-5th April 2016, Rogla (SLO) welcomed the world’s best youngsters for the FIS Snowboard Junior World Championships in parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom, snowboard cross and team snowboard cross.

The team snowboard cross event was won by Switzerland with Jerome Lymann and Kalle Koblet making up the men’s team and France claimed the ladies title through Manon Petit and Gaia Tarasco.

In the individual cross competitions, Kristina Paul (RUS) earned the title while Luca Haemmerle stepped into the footsteps of his older brother Alessandro to take gold for Austria.

The parallel events saw Russia clearly dominate the scene with Elizaveta Salikhova claiming her first international title in parallel giant slalom joined by her teammate Dmitry Sarsembaev, who took the men’s gold.

In the parallel slalom, another Russian, Dmitry Loginov and Ramona Hofmeister (GER) earned the gold.

In the overall medals standings, combining the results from the events in Rogla and the freestyle competitions in Seiser Alm (ITA) a week earlier, Team Russia was the most successful nation with ten medals (click here for medals table).

Overall, U.S. young gun Chris Corning was the most successful athlete with double gold in slopestyle and big air.
