Magnus Krog is starting the season on the same high note that he finished the last one with: the 29-year-old won the Nordic Combined competition held at the Oslo Ski Show with 24.9 seconds on second-ranked local hero Jarl Riiber. Team veteran Magnus Moan finished on rank three, 48.7 seconds behind Krog.
The foundation for Krog’s triumph was laid in the jumping part on Oslo’s Midtstubakken in which Krog had already conquered the second position with a nice jump of 98.5 metres. Only jumping sensation Riiber surpassed Krog in slighly windy conditions with 96 metres. The longest jump of the day and rank three went to Thomas Kjelbotn who landed at 100.5 metres.
For the race, this meant a head start of 4 seconds for Jarl Riiber but in the first lap of the 10 kilometres race at the Holmenkollen venue, Krog had already stormed past his young teammate and taken the lead. Riiber was not able to hold on to Krog and finished the race on a lonely second place, losely trailed by Magnus Moan who had started with a time disadvantage of one minute and 32 seconds. Rank four went to Thomas Kjelbotn who defended his position against Olympic Champion Jørgen Graabak who ended up on rank five, starting from the ninth position.
The Top Ten were completed by Jan Schmid, Håvard Klemetsen, Harald Riiber, Sindre Ure Søtvik and Mikko Kokslien.
