Australia launches nationwide project to bring children to the snow

More nationwide projects to bring children to the snow are being created each year. The latest country to join is Australia.

Whilst many consider Australia a summer destination, the country boasts a number of ski resorts. Coupled with multiple World and Olympic Champions, Australia has a healthy snow sports industry. The next step to ensure its snow sports future has been launched with “Little Shredders” which is part of FIS SnowKidz.

Little Shredders is a brand new ‘off-snow’ programme aimed at teaching children the basics of snowsports without actually visiting the slopes. Based on the hugely popular Burton Riglet product, Little Shredders provides the opportunity for children to learn the fundamental skills of skiing and snowboarding from the convenience of the school yard or gymnasium, through game based learning.

The programme can be run by all physical education teachers. This is achieved by providing the school equipment designed specifically for school children along with a full curriculum.

To make the programme more special Ski and Snowboard Australia have teamed up with Australian ski resorts to provide a “Golden Ticket”. Each participant completing the course receives a ticket that entitles them to 2 days free lift pass, equipment hire and instruction at any one of the participating resorts.

“It’s a very exciting programme and we can’t wait to provide every Australian child the opportunity to learn how to ski and snowboard before they actually hit the slopes.” said Nick Frayne, National Participation and Sport Development Manager, Ski & Snowboard Australia.
